Deep within the La Peur swamp lives a cruel little man known as the Night Whisperer. The locals fear and hate him for his treachery and malice.
Barnabé Baptiste had a unique gift that allowed him to steal the secrets so tightly held by the town’s people.
Each night, he would sit under the stars and call the dragonflies to speak with him of what they heard among the locals. He learned of affairs, fights, and even murders from his winged informants.
Barnabé would then blackmail these people or else, over a drink, let slip a rumor he had heard. Many people wanted the Night Whisperer dead.
Each feared that whoever did the deed would learn of others’ secrets, and nothing is more contagious than a secret, so they paid the money and bit their tongues.
Barnabé never cared for humans, so his bugs and gator friends kept him company to his liking. As he put it, “I never met a scaly or slimy I didn’t like.
