There is a place where children are warned against going. It is a place in the wildwood where strange happenings often occur. The locals refer to it as the realm of Madam Meow.
Grannys, who tuck their children in for the night, tell of a mysterious being who can transform into a bird and fly to the moon.
A woodcutter claimed that he once encountered an elk as big as a bear, which spoke to him a warning to stay away from the wildwood with his axe.
Grandpa Musachek says that when he was a young boy fishing, a large trout swam by and scolded him for taking the juveniles. “Throw them back or never catch a fish again,” the trout said.
Finally, Grandma Muska’s dog got away from her while walking in the woods and was never seen again. Grandma swears that near the spot where the dog vanished is a tree in the shape of her pet that was not there before.
No man can say whether these tales are foolish or not. But if you listen to the winds on cold winter nights, they speak of a creature from the north who holds plague and death at bay. Many would die without the witch of the wood, say the winds.
So, if you travel near the wildwood on a cold autumn night, watch for anything unusual. It may be the Mystical Madam Meow spying on you. You better avoid making a mistake, or she will turn you into a tree.
