Madmen speak of encountering the Snark, reptoids in South America’s Andes Mountains. It is said that once they have you in their sight, you are driven mad by the high-pitched whistle they use as a weapon.
Some have escaped the Snark by leaping into the canyon river, which flows beside the altar of the Eye.
Legend tells of the Eye’s ability to see into the future and predict battle outcomes. Others claim it bestows the power of seeing great distances, letting one know the enemy’s movements.
All but a few who attempt to seek the Eye are killed or driven mad by the Snark guards or, worse, torn limb from limb by the Torque, a giant reptilian dog.
If one is wise, studies the available writings, prepares the correct offering, and honors their laws, outsiders have had an audience with the Eye.
Capt. Thompson of the British Exploratory Mission of 1839 was one such person. Upon his return, the Captain retired to his family’s country estate, never to be seen again.
Tales tell of his madness and heavy drinking, but I have it on good authority those rumors are a smoke screen. The Captian used his newly acquired powers to pit nation against nation to control the old world order.
Whether he succeeded, we’ll never know, as so many conflicts existed before his attempts as well as after his mysterious disappearance.
The police say he went swimming in the sea and was never seen again, presumed drowned and his body eaten by marine life.
It is my belief that the Captain returned to the Snark and remains there today as an honored guest. But don’t take my word for it. Why not catch a steamer down south and see if you can find him yourself? Who knows, you may get an audience with the Eye.
