Twisted Tales to Delight and Amaze

The Library Cat

The Library Cat

Tomasina would do no work, not lower herself to chase a mouse or kill a rat.

Tomasina was wise for a cat. She had read nearly all the books in the library. Tomasina was above fouling her paws with the dirt of a rodent.

She would sit on her desk, preening herself morning and night, and when the Librarian would bring her meals, they were in the finest porcelain bowls.

One day, no meal came even though she waited in her spot. The same happened the following day, and the next, and the next. Tomasina was getting very hungry.

On the fourth day, a mouse scurried by. Without thinking, the feline pounced with claws extended. Moments later, it lay lifeless on the floor, and Tomasina tasted blood for the first time.

“Oh, me, oh my, this is quite exquisite. I think I shall find another,” said the library cat.

The Librarian returned, and Tomasina’s bowl was full of the finest canned cat food money could buy. “Sorry, love, but I was out with a cold. I hope you didn’t suffer much,” remarked the woman.

The library cat meowed took a few bites and then slinked off for the main course. Mouse was on the menu to stay, even if it meant getting her paws a little messy.
