Twisted Tales to Delight and Amaze

The Before Time

The Before Time

Before Trifle came to live with Elly and Silas in our realm, she dwelt with the fae where she lived in the great forest and spent her days basking in the sun.

Her close friend was a fae, Twilight, whose job was caring for the evening star. Twilight would fly up to the star each afternoon and give it a good polish to make it shine brightly that evening.

Her mornings were always spent with Trifle storytelling of lands across the sea where enormous gardens filled the land as far as you could see.

“I hope I can go there someday and see those things and meet the people who made them,” Trifle told her friend.

And so it went day after day until everything stopped. You see, a dark wizard had come to the great forest, and during his walks, he discovered Trifle and swore he would have her as his bride.

Trifle refused, and with Twilight’s help, she managed to escape the dark magician and cross into our realm, where she was rescued by Miss Elly and her dog Silas.

This story would have had a happy ending if it hadn’t been that Twilight sacrificed her life to get Trifle into our realm.

The only way to enter another world is to possess powerful magic, such as the dark wizard, or to make a great sacrifice for the one crossing over.

Twilight blocked a lightning bolt from the wizard’s staff that would have killed Trifle. With her remaining strength, the fae recited an incantation that opened a portal between worlds, allowing Trifle to escape the wizard.

As the doorway between worlds closed, the flowerling turned to see her friend dissolve into fairy dust to be carried by the wind to the lands across the sea.

Years later, each day brings a reminder that her friend is gone and Trifle will never see her again—such a bitter-sweet ending to an otherwise happy tale.

Miss Elly offers her simple words of advice. “A friend in need is a friend indeed. Cherish what we have before it slips away.”

Trifle is grateful for Elly and Silas and makes the most of every day, knowing that time is too short to waste it feeling blue about the past.
