Fire With Fire

“Enough! We of the troll clan have kept this secret from the Waldvolker for far too long. Given that fact, the Mörken has somehow come back bringing a horde of Ratlings and a necromancer; I see we have no choice in the matter,” said Oteck.

The council of four sat in the darkened cave, sipping mata as they discussed revealing the troll’s greatest secret.

“Oteck, you are young and do not have the wisdom to see things in the correct light. Perhaps you should sit and drink with us,” offered the council elder.

“Fight fire with fire, our ancestors would have said. The necromancer has brought fire demons, who are razing the northern forests at this very moment. Our worm will eliminate them easily if we allow it,” Oteck cried.

The silence was deafening as the elders reflected on the youngling’s words.

“I believe Oteck is correct. The necromancer changes everything; the Dark One and his Troth were vile, but fire demons and soul spectators are an evil we have not faced in ten generations, and then we had more than one worm to defend ourselves,” stated Elder Kishtar.

“Perhaps you speak the true-true. As council head, I was responsible for keeping the worm hidden away to protect it so we could use it in a time of great need. That time is now,” the council leader said.

“You speak straight and with sincerity. I will leave in the morning atop the worm, fly to the northern region, and, with Zarcon’s blessing, destroy the fire demons before they can do more damage,” said Oteck.

“Go, child of stone, and bring the troll’s vengeance upon the Dark One and his minions,” said the council. Oteck left to prepare for the morning flight.

As the sun rose, the troll and Narok, the last fire dragon, exited the trolls’ caverns and gave a victory cry: “Ee-septum Morvas.” Today is a good day to die. Then they were off.
