“Hello, my friend. I brought your favorite today,” said Anya to Bartel Bee.

“I am grateful. You have been a good friend to the bees,” said Bartel.

The two spent the morning chatting about news from the forest. “I must warn you, matron,” remarked the bee. “Dark forces swirl around us. We will lose what we hold so precious.”

“I see the slow creep of death and know it comes from the Outlanders. Their greed rivals that of the Dark One. They do not understand how the forest connects to them,” replied Anya.

“I must return to the Queen. I will share your council,” said Bartel. He took flight, leaving Anya to enjoy the morning breeze.

“Let’s hope the Outlanders wake from their walking dream,” remarked the matron. Anya wished for the Outlander’s young to stop the fall into darkness.
