“Time and Tide wait for no man. Come along, Gabriel,” said Timothy Thornsby.
The merchant placed his top hat on his head. He put his duck on his hat and strutted down the street to his morning appointment with Mrs. Bartholomew.
“We’re two minutes behind. Hold on to your feathers; I’m speeding up,” Timothy said to his passenger.
Arriving early, Timothy adjusted his jacket, straightened his hat, and slipped his watch into his vest pocket.
“It is time,” said the merchant, who knocked on the door and waited.
“Punctual as ever, I like that in a man,” said the woman who led Timothy to the parlor and tea.
“I have considered your offer, Mr.Thornsby, and will accept your terms,” said the widow. “My husband has passed, and I do not need the summer home anymore. Your generous offer allows me to retire comfortably,” added the woman.
“I shall have the bank send a draft first thing in the morning. Now, if you excuse me, I must be off,” said Timothy.
The rest of his day went similarly. By evening tea, Timothy, and Gabriel were home and seated before a large platter of cakes and tea.
“You know, Gab, sometimes I wonder if all this running around for money isn’t just madness. Well, at least we have tea and cakes, and tomorrow offers a new adventure in finance,” said Timothy.
Gabriel didn’t mind, especially riding on Timothy’s hat. He had a bird’s eye view of the world, which suited a duck just fine.
