Tea for Two

Tea for Two

Welcome, my friend. It’s always a pleasure to see you. Now sit, and we will talk, but first tea,” said Maximilian.

Áskell had lived in the forest for millennia, and the worm had always been a part of his world. “How old are you now, Max?” asked the forest elf.

“Áskell, one never asks a woman or a worm their age. It’s unheard of,” teased Max as he poured the tea.

“Pardon my manners, oh great worm. I forgot my position,” chided the elf.

The two friends had been having tea once a year for the past hundred years and had grown close as brothers.

“Tell me, Áskell, what is the word? Will there be war, or will the troll step back and think before they act?” asked the worm.

“No, the rumors turned out to be false. The trolls have been in their mountain home since Winter Solstice,” said the guardian.

“A toast to a happy Spring, then,” said Max.

“Indeed, to a happy Spring, it is,” seconded Áskell.

The companions chatted until late in the afternoon.

“I must be off to a council meeting. May the wind be on your back and the sun on your shoulder until we meet again,” said Áskell.

“Fly high,” replied the worm.

Áskell wondered how many more years the two would meet. Even a mountain turned to sand. Until that time, he would enjoy tea for two in the spring.
