Excuse Me Sir

Excuse Me Sir

“Excuse me, sir,” said a small voice.

Malac leaned over the counter to see who was speaking.

“Who might you be, my little friend?” said the wizard.

“I’m Bartlet, sir. My Grandma sent me to buy dragon weed for her tea,” the tiny figure said.

“Dragon Weed? Hmm, you must be Velma Staghorn’s grandson, yes?” asked Malac.

“That is correct, sir,” answered the boy.

The wizard turned and selected the jar containing dark purple leaves.

“She usually takes two drams,” said the Malac. “That will be three silvers,” he added as he wrapped up the Dragon Weed.

Bartlet held out his hand, which contained the coins for the wizard. Malac retrieved the coins and placed the parcel in the boy’s hand.

“Thank you for your help. It has been a pleasure meeting you, Mister Wizard. I hope I have the pleasure of meeting you in the future,” said Barlet, who bowed and left the apothecary.

“What an odd little boy. Still, he is the finest young man I’ve enjoyed meeting in a long while. He will make an excellent wizard,” remarked the wizard.

Malac watched the little boy stumble up the path with his package. He made a mental note to tutor him when he was old enough.

“That boy will teach us all a thing or two about being a good person,” Malac said with a wry smile.
