Flowing Water

Montag listened to the flow of water behind him. “How calming. Just like the singing willows in Walpurgis,” said the wizard.

When Montag could get away, he secured a bottle of hemlock and a pewter cup. Then he headed for the Weeping Waterfalls.

“Why must the headmaster be so brash? Doesn’t he understand I am doing my best with the recruits?” muttered Montag.

When he was a student in Walpurgis, Montag had shown such promise. Many said he would end up on the wizard council.

The Twilight Wars derailed his ambitions. Montag needed to pursue an alternative career path. Teaching at the academy.

The dark forces overran Walpurgis and killed many witches and wizards. After the grand wizard Gunthrill defeated Mörken the Dark One, the wizarding world lie in ruin.

“I’m sorry you will not take your rightful place on the council, but Walpurgis has a greater need. You’re destined to rebuild the magical forces to fight the next war,” said the grand wizard.

Montag threw himself into the task of training witches and wizards to protect Walpurgis. Every pupil needed to succeed, and Montag worked hard to help them achieve their best.

Montag finished the bottle, then leaned his head back and listened to the sound of flowing water. “Soon, I will shuffle off this mortal coil and travel to Asgard to rest for an eternity,” said the wizard.

“Until such time, I must get back to the academy and finish marking the students’ papers. Such is the life of a mentor,” said Montag with a wry smile.
