Missing Master

Philomena had lived with Oman the Great for over a hundred years. She learned everything she could about the dark arts.

“Master will be proud of me when I bring him back from the great beyond,” said Philomena.

After Oman’s death, his familiar went into a decline. She ate little and cried much until at last she hatched a plan.

“I must reanimate, Master, and we will be happy like before,” said the cat.

The cat worked night and day. She perfected the spell she needed. Then, she went straight away to the tower to cast it.

“Now, Master,” Philomena said. “I will bring you back from the void. Together we will live as before.” Then she cast the spell.

The crystal orb glowed as its contents swirled about. “It’s working as I’d hoped,” said Philomena.

The face of her Master appeared in the orb. Philomena expected a smile, but her Master’s expression was one of anger.

“Philomena, why have you disturbed my rest?” her Master said.

“I missed you and want us to be happy again,” the cat said.

Oman smiled, then explained that he had lived a thousand lifetimes and wanted to relax.

“Dearest Philomena, I miss you as well, but it is my time to rest. We will be together again, for now, enjoy your fish,” said her Master, who faded away.

At first, Philomena felt crushed, but after a moment, she smiled.

“I am feeling peckish,” said Philomena as she made her way to the kitchen. “A bite of salmon will do the trick.”

“I only have one of my nine lives left. I better enjoy fish while I can,” said the cat as she ate her meal.

“Salmon is the best,” Philomena said as she curled up for a morning nap.
