“So tired, Balamore, I need to rest,” said the giant as they moved across the land.
“It won’t be long now, my friend, but we must hurry before the sun rises,” the wizard said.
Two thousand years ago, Titans walked the earth. During this time, a wizard befriended a giant. The wizard swore to protect the giant from the coming of man.
“I don’t want to drop your tower, but my strength is fading. I’m not sure I can go on,” said Grutong to his friend.
It was here that the giant made a fatal mistake. Instead of climbing the hill, he turned and headed into the bog.
“My feet are getting wet and walking is impossible,” said Grutong.
Balamore rushed to the edge of the giant’s hand and looked down. “Grutong, turn back, you’ll never make it through the bog,” cried his friend.
The giant sat down with a flop that almost threw Balamore off the giant’s hand.
“I’m tired and I want to sleep now. Don’t worry, Balamore, I will keep your tower dry,” said the giant.
His friend pleaded for him to get up, to no avail. “I will do what I can to protect you from the sun,” the wizard said.
The giant’s great mass sank into the ooze, causing him to disappear below the surface. Balamore cast a sleep spell to protect his friend from drowning in the bog.
“Rest, my friend, there may come a time when you need to protect Arthur’s realm. Until then, sleep,” said the wizard.
True to his word, Grutong kept Balamore’s tower dry but at the expense of his hand. When the sun crested the horizon, the giant’s exposed flesh transformed into stone.
Balamore allowed the land to conceal his friend’s body, which lay beneath the forest floor.
Two millennia have passed. The giant rests while the wizard guards the secret that lies below.
“Arthur may still awake to reclaim his kingdom. If he should, you, my friend, will rise to defend Camelot once again,” said Balamore.
Until then, the wizard waits and watches from his tower held high above the forest floor.
