“You’re a liar, Billy Stoat,” said Thomas.
“It’s true, my grandfather took this picture while he was serving on the HMS Britney,” said Billy.
Billy had brought an old, faded photograph to school, which he had found in his grandfather’s house.
“My father said the Sea Sprites are children’s stories and anyone who believes in them is a fool,” said Markus.
“How do you explain this picture then?” asked Billy.
The boys scratched their heads, but didn’t say a word.
“Maybe the Sea Sprites are like the dinosaurs. They once existed but are now extinct, which would explain the picture,’ muttered Darwin.
The boys stared at the photo for a long time. “I wish we could sail to that place and see the islands,” remarked Billy.
The boys all nodded their heads and then waved goodbye.
Billy slipped the old image under his pillow in the hope of dreaming of those far-off islands.
“Grandpa sure was lucky to see such wonders. I hope to sail the seas and see such things as well,” muttered Billy as he faded into sleep.
Billy’s grandfather once told him that even if dreams can’t come true, why not pretend they can?
One never knows when a genie or a fairy will grant you a wish. It’s best to have practised dragon fighting in case you find yourself facing one.
Billy planned to practise a lot before he grew up.
