Tea and Cakes

Tea and Cakes

“Cookies, cakes, pie, and tea, that’s what’s in store for me,” sang Daedalus.

Once a month, the Puntik would sail his little shruberish down the babbling brook. There, he would have afternoon tea with Ursula, the wise woman.

“What special treat will Ursula have prepared today? I hope it has lots of berries, I do love them so,” remarked Daedalus.

Today was a special day, as it was the Puntik’s birthday.

“I hope the wise woman will like my double cream. It will go nicely with a tart or sponge cake,” said Daedalus.

The sun was high in the sky when the Puntik secured his craft to the dock. Gathering up his basket and flask, Daedalus stepped onto the dock and headed for tea.

“Welcome, and a very happy birthday to you,” the wise woman said.

“Thank you, Ursala,” said Daedalus.

“It’s past time we get this party going. Come in and let’s begin,” said Ursala.

After the celebration, the Puntik boarded his shruberish, waved goodbye, and sailed home.

“I wish it could be tea and cakes day every day. Well, maybe every other day. I wouldn’t want to have to buy new briches,” said Daedalus with a wry smile.

“A birthday, however, is fine once a year. Too many would spoil the fun,” said Daedalus.

Daedalus thought about how it was the waiting for something that made it extra special.

“Yes, waiting for tea and cakes always makes the day special,” Daedalus said. He then slipped into bed and fell fast asleep.
