“I’m the Graveman of Cartuth, and since you are here, I will tell you my tale,” said the troll.
Karoth was entrusted with the bodies of the saints seven centuries ago. During his time as the watchman, many creatures attempted to steal the bodies to sell as relics. Everyone is dead thanks to the Graveman’s courage.
“My father sold me to the temple as a servant boy. Two centuries passed. All those who were here before had died. I am now the keeper of the dead,” said Karoth.
The Gravemen did not mind his work. He was protecting those who were foretold to rise and defeat the Dark One upon his return.
“I have my routine, which helps pass the time,” said the troll.
After five hundred years, the troll thought about giving up. “There is no reason I should stay,” said Karoth. “The Dark One will never return.”
The Graveman vowed to leave on the fifth of Po if he was not shown a sign by the ancients. Two days later, the Troth attacked the ancient forest and killed many Waldvolker.
“What a fool doubting the scrolls. I must prepare for the Dark One’s coming,” said the troll.
Karoth secured every door and gate in the temple so none could pass into the crypt below.
“The Troth demons attacked on the fifth of Po. Had I not prepared for this day, all would have been lost,” said the troll.
After the Troth’s defeat, Karoth vowed to die rather than let the Dark One access the saint’s powers.
“It has been two years since Mörken went to the void. But I can sense him in my bones. The Dark One is returning, and soon,” said the Graveman.
“So stranger, you have heard my tale, will you stay and give your life to the protection of these bones?” asked the troll.
“I thought as much. On your way then. Be warned, the Dark One is returning. Whether you fight him here or on the surface, you will face him in combat,” said Karoth.
The Graveman turned and walked into the darkened passage, leaving you to find your way out.
The Graveman’s words haunted. “Whether you fight him here or on the surface, you will face him in combat.”
You hoped his words were just words to scare the unbelievers. Still, you rush to seek shelter before sundown in case they were not just stories.
