Twisted Tales to Delight and Amaze

Moon Man

Moon Man

Fairy tales and folk tales are fun stories we tell our children when we put them to sleep. But what if they weren’t all made up?

Once, a very long time ago, a little boy was orphaned during the Crimean War.

Hungry and cold, he stole what he could to stay alive. The boy knew this was wrong. One night, when the moon was bright in the night sky. He got down on his knees and prayed to Sister Moon.

“I do not want to steal or hurt anyone. I want to help those who are cold and hungry. Please, Sister Moon, grant my wish, and I will serve you for all my days,” said the boy.

The next morning, when the boy awoke, he found a basket filled with bread, milk, eggs, and butter.

“Thank you, Sister Moon. I will honor you and keep my promise,” the boy said.

After filling his belly, the boy searched for other homeless and hungry children.

“Here, eat, my friend. Sister Moon has gifted us this. To help others as well,” said the boy to other children.

No matter how much he gave away, there was always more to give.

Soon, an army of children swarmed through the town and countryside, handing out food to those who had none.

Once the war ended and many of the children were reunited with their families, the boy remained alone.

“Sister Moon is my family,” remarked the boy to the concerned citizen. He traveled the roads searching for those who needed help.

After many years, the boy grew old and could no longer travel the roads. He gave his basket to another who would carry on his work after he had passed on.

Now an older man, he lay down to die. Before he shut his eyes, he apologized to Sister Moon. He regretted not being capable of doing more to help those in need.

Making a last wish, the man asked to sleep forever in the moon’s embrace.

That night, under a full moon, the man got his wish a second time.

If you look at the moon, you may spot the man curled up in the Sister Moon’s embrace.
