Twisted Tales to Delight and Amaze

Sentinels

“I can feel them, but I can not see them,” said Acropolis.

“I sense their presence as well. Is it possible they are underground?, asked Markel.

The sentinels scanned the horizon for the slightest movement, but none came.

Do you think an Arrkon would lower itself? Would it crawl beneath the soil it claims to be a GOD over?

“No, silly of me to even suggest it, but I do think imagination is the mother of invention,” replied Kiree.

“What do you mean by that? I always thought that necessity was the mother of invention?” asked the Creeon.

“The Arrkons think we see them as too upity to crawl around in the dark. They might do that to fool the sentinels,” replied the Waldvolker.

The two guardians exchanged ideas on why they could sense the enemy but could not see it. They decided to return to camp and report to the base commander.

“Climb on, Kiree, time to return to base,” said the Creeon.

As Kiree took a step, she felt the ground thrust up, knocking her off her feet.

“By the Gods, you were right, they are underground,” cried Acropolis.

Kiree lept onto the Creeon’s back as both were thrust into the air by the exploding rock below.

“We were fortunate to get away. We must relay this development to the commander,” said Acropolis.

Behind them, the entire outcropping they stood on collapsed into a pile of dust.

“I see they are using the old method of dig and cover,” said Kiree.

“Yes, that is how they are avoiding detection.

The earth sank, leaving no sign of the outcroppings common to the region.

Sentinels returned and triggered massive cave-ins, trapping many Arrkons and killing the rest.

“You have taught me a great lesson today. My arrogance puts the Waldvolker at risk. Thank you for being my teacher and revealing my errors,” said Acropolis.

“Don’t mention it. It is the reason we are a team. We are one when it comes to being sentinels. I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Kiree.

“Neither would I,” replied Acropolis.
