Twisted Tales to Delight and Amaze

A Loathsome Troll

“It’s not my fault, I can’t stand the smell of humans,” said the Troll.

Garnet had lived in the forest for as long as anyone could remember. In all that time, no one ever said a nice thing about him, or bad, for that matter.

“Fish, that’s what I fancy. Trout being me favorite,” mumbled Garnet.

The other trolls mocked him for his puny skull necklace. “Can’t help it, only ate one and I thought I would die doing that,” Garnet told them.

“I try to be all mean and nasty, and go about stomping humans and theys houses. Can’t get up the gumption for it,” the Troll explained to the elders.

What Garnet enjoyed was going to the river and sinking his feet into the cool sticky mud. “I feels relaxed when I soak me feet,” the Troll told his mother.

Even his own mother could not stand him. “You’re a loathsome creature. I should have thrown you to the dragons or ate you myself,” said his mother.

Garnet could have left the forest and lived with his father in the mountains. Instead, the Troll hides in the darker side of the forest.

“I will leave here someday and go live alone, yes, I will live alone and be happy,” Garnet tells himself.

If truth be told, Garnet is too afraid to do anything but mope.

“They are right, I’m loathsome. Can’t even walk away from this misery,” said the Troll to himself.

One day, the loathsome Troll finally left the forest. Garnet walked straight into the bright sunlight.

If you wish, you can still see him glaring up at the sky. A broad smile stretches across his stone face.
