Keeper of Secrets

Keeper of Secrets

“What will I do?” said Thelonious.

It is a long-held belief that frogs make the best keepers of secrets.

Listening to those who come to unburden their souls often places a tremendous weight upon the frog’s conscience.

“I must not let my husband know that the child isn’t his,” whispered the Duchess.

“I will return the money as soon as I can,” muttered the servant.

“I married him only for his wealth and to please my father. I can’t stand the revolting beast,” mumbled the woman.

Thelonious reflects on the words that ring in his head. “Damn them all for bringing their troubles to me,” cried the frog.

The frog needed a way to relieve the burdensome weight on his mind, but knew of none.

“I will go mad if I can’t tell someone of those betrayals,” Thelonious said one morning.

As if hearing his plea, a dragonfly landed next to him and asked, “What news have you, friend frog?”

Thelonious’s eyes lit up, “Yes, you’ll do,” cried the frog.

Shocked, the insect listened to all the secrets the frog had amassed.

“My word, have I been away that long?” remarked the dragonfly.

Thelonious thanked the insect for his ear and hopped away.

The dragonfly shared it with the butterfly. The butterfly passed it on to the moth. The moth whispered it to the cook. Finally, the cook informed the King.

The guilty parties paid with their lives, bringing this tale to an end.

If there is a lesson here, it is never to trust a frog with your secrets.
