Twisted Tales to Delight and Amaze

Solstice Sunrise

“Come on, Pip, I want to go back to bed. It’s too early in the morning for me,” said Slovar Dragon.

“You old firebag. All you do is whine. I brought you here to see the solstice sunrise,” said Pip.

“Looks the same as all the others to me,” remarked the dragon.

“Slovar, it’s not about how it looks, it’s about what it means. Solstice is a turning point in the seasons. We are here to honor the gift of another year,” said the elf.

“Oh, it’s one of those metafarcycle things you humanoids talk about. Right?” asked Slovar.

“Metaphysical, it’s metaphysical, you silly old dragon. It gives meaning to our lives. Unlike you dragons, who live for thousands of years, we elves and humans live much shorter lives. We cherish these moments since we only experience a few compared to your kind,” Pip said.

“I understand now, thank you for explaining it to me. You are kind that way, and it is why you are my best friend,” Slovar said.

“My pleasure,” answered the elf.

The two stood in silence and watched the sun rise above the tree line, then climb higher into the sky.

“Hungry?” Pip asked.

“Famished,” answered Slovar.

“Fish or lamb today?” asked his friend.

“Fish, I’m trying to slim down for the dragon’s ball. Maybe this year, that pretty Romanian Ridgeback will give me a second look,” replied the dragon.

“Fish it is,” cried Pip as the two flew off to the coast and breakfast.

Sometimes being a friend is listening. Other times, it’s explaining how you feel. But most of the time, it’s just being there.
