“I don’t like the look of the moon this morning,” Franny told Izba as they headed out to hunt mushrooms.
“The hair on my neck is sticking up. Could there be another necromancer?” asked the cat.
“We need to see what Fern thinks of this. She is the wizard of the family after all,” answered the Hedgewitch.
Fern opened the door, “No, it’s not a necromancer, and yes, something evil has come to the woods,” said the elder twin.
“I hate when she does that. It gives me the creeps,” Izba said.
The three guardians sat and discussed their next course of action over tea cakes.
“I love these apple fritters, you must share your secret,” remarked Franny.
“Ladies, please. Folksburywoods is in danger, and you sit chatting about the bakery,” muttered the cat.
“Sorry, old man. About that beastie out there. It appears to be some form of Ghast,” said Fern.
“I hate them buggers, all they ever do is kill,” remarked Franny.
“That is their purpose after all,” Izba said.
“This calls for a trip to the wise woman’s hut and more tea and cakes,” the Hedgewitch said with a grin.
“Sister, this is no laughing matter. A Ghast is twice as dangerous as that necromancer we fought,” Fern said.
“I was afraid you would say something like that,” said the cat.
“Then it’s off to Hendrek’s, or do you think we should notify Thosis?” asked Franny.
“This one’s on us. By the time we got help, who knows what havoc the thing might bring to the woods,” replied Fern.
The guardians gather supplies and then head in the direction Izba’s hair pointed.
“My Lord Mörken, I have crossed over as you planned. What is my task?” questioned the creature.
“Destroy the forest,” came the Dark One’s answer.
“The enter woods?” questioned the Ghast.
“Lay waste to Folksburywoods and those impertinent Waldvolker as well,” said Mörken.
“As you wish, my Lord,” came the Ghast’s reply. Moments later, he vanished into the forest to begin his task of destruction.
