“A waste of life,” cried Kris as he looked down upon the dead rabbit.
Kris Kringle was on a journey of discovery. “I want to find a place where we can build a future. To protect those persecuted by the government for their beliefs,” said Kris.
Anger, then rage filled his thoughts.
“How can I ever protect those under my care when I can’t even save this poor creature?” said Kris.
Kris examined the rabbit’s body and found where it had been shot for sport. “Damn them, why kill if not for nourishment? Is this what the adults have become?” asked the man.
Kris made a vow to teach the young to cherish all life. They should take only what is needed to sustain life, no more.
“If I may use your body to sustain me on my quest, I would be honored,” said Kris
After he built a fire, he skinned and then roasted the creature.
“I give thanks to the life that now feeds me. I will honor your death and pray for your journey to the happy hunting grounds,” said the man.
After he finished, Kris used his staff to dig a hole to bury the rabbit’s remains. “From the earth we come, and to it we must return,” said Kris as he covered the bones.
“I must not doubt myself. I will find a place for peace and safety. Where needless death is forbidden and each life, no matter how tiny, is cherished,” said Kris.
The sun hung low in the sky, and Kris Kringle had miles to go before he could rest.
“I will succeed. I must. The people are counting on me,” said the man. He headed north in the hope of finding sanctuary and a new beginning.
