In a time now forgotten dwelt the Brachenia, who, being gentle and kind, watched over the forest.
When the Brachenia walk the forest, neither plants nor animals worry about their safety. The beast does not interfere with the natural order, and the cycle continues with prey and predator.
Its charge was to protect the forest from evil that had begun to spread across the land in the form of the Dark One.
Using the Old Magic, the Council of Elders summoned the creature, hoping it might give them time to defeat Mörken before he and the Troth decimated the ancient forest.
Day or night, the Brachenia patrols the woods in search of the Dark One’s minions or stray outlanders who might be looking to poach a tree or wildlife.
Though gentle and kind to the forest folk, the beast has no patience for outsiders and disposes of them with haste.
After Mörken’s fall, the Brachenia was forgotten and now roams the abandoned city of Acacia deep in the forest. Without purpose, the beast longs to return to the Old Ones across the veil.
The Council, however, does not have the means to send it home, so it is doomed to wander until the end of time.
It is a sad fate for the noble creature, but humans are shortsighted and often hurt those most precious to the land. As the wise woman says, “So it goes.”
