The six figures traversed the snowy landscape in silence. Each one held a dangerous secret they hoped would return the Dark One from the void.
After the Old Ones sent Mörken and his Troth into the void, the Waldvolker breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the times of trouble had ended.
For darker beings who dwelt in the ancient forest, the fear of vengeance from the forest folk gripped their souls, causing them to flee or hide deep underground.
The clan of the Ratnoids neither fled nor feared the forces of light. Their shaman had predicted the Dark One’s fall, and plans were already in motion for his return.
As the oldest inhabitants of the forest, the Ratnoids held secrets unknown to the rest, objects from the dawn of time that could open portals to other dimensions.
On the fifth of Plutarch, the Ratnoid high priest retrieved the Eye of Oynx and gave it to the Hunters with instructions to find the Temple of Tenebrae.
“With the Eye, you will be able to open the door and return Mörken, the Dark One, to our realm so he may once again bring darkness to the land,” said the shaman.
The Hunters crossed many lands until they reached the high peaks of Tenagra, where the temple lay hidden. As they closed in upon the journey’s end, they prayed the Eye would bring the destroyer back from the void.
Group Captain Norvar placed the Eye in its receptacle and recited an incantation. Instantly, a brilliant light filled the temple. “Mörken, bringer darkness, step forth and claim this realm as it was foretold so long ago,” said the soldier.
The six remain motionless, fearing any movement would cause the door to close, damning their mission. “Who summons me from beyond,” boomed a voice.
“It is your humble servants, my lord, the Ratnoids. We have prepared for your return so you may bring darkness foretold in prophecy,” answered the Hunter.
Moments later, a dark shape stepped through the portal and onto the platform. “I’ve returned my loyal servants; let the mayhem begin,” spoke the Dark One.
Retrieving the Eye, the captain led his master back to the ancient forest where preparations were taking place to attack the village of Folksbury on the next full moon.
“Unlike those fools, the Troth, the Ratnoids shall stand strong and defeat my enemy, the Waldvolker,” Mörken said with a wry smile.
