William the Terrible was the meanest critter in Dewy County. Folks steered clear of his farm, fearing a meeting with him.
The farmer had no trouble with the beast. William knew better than to upset his meal ticket.
Thumbtack was another story. The plow horse lived in constant fear of the goat. If he should ever upset the creature, the horse’s anxiety drove it to desperation due to the goat’s temper.
William had a cruel streak a mile wide and took great pleasure in inflicting suffering on the poor horse. Once, Thumbtack returned from the field to have William blindside him over missing oats.
William does have a soft spot for the nanny goat down the lane. She’ll have nothing to do with the brute. Being rejected gets the goat fired up—woe to the critter nearby when his anger pops.
The day the goat drops dead, the villagers plan to celebrate and proclaim it Independence Day.
Until then, folks suggest you avoid Cherry Blossom Lane if you’re leaving town. Its cantankerous occupant, William the Terrible, is best avoided.
