Twisted Tales to Delight and Amaze

Listening

Listening

“The wind has calmed, so peaceful yet if I listen, I can hear a thousand voices,” said Anya.

Every morning, the matron sat outside and read her books while she sipped tea.

“What must the birds think of me sitting here munching on cake? Hoping I’ll drop a few crumbs for them to snack on for sure,” remarked Anya.

When Anya was younger, her mother took her into the forest to search for berries and mushrooms. Instead of searching, she would sit and listen to all the voices of nature.

“But, mother, it’s like listening to a symphony. The animals’ voices make such beautiful music,” Anya would tell her mother when scolded for not helping.

After the girl married, she had no time to listen. She had two children and a husband to care for. Sitting in the forest listening was a luxury she could not afford.

Once in a while, as Anya hung the sheets to dry, she stopped. She let the sound of the world flow over her. Such moments were fleeting and infrequent.

When her husband died, she needed every second to make ends meet. Listening to nature became a lost dream as her children needed food and clothing.

Time moved on, and the woman bid farewell to her children. Life seemed to slow down. “What a fine day to sit outside and feel the breeze,” murmured Ayna one day.

Sitting, Anya remembered her childhood and the joy she found in listening to the sounds of nature.

“How wonderful is the music of the trees as they sway in a breeze,” remarked the matron one day.

Now each morning, Anya brews her tea and selects a biscuit. “What to read? Silly me, I’ll never finish it out there,” says Anya with a wry smile.

Sitting on her stool, Anya listens to the symphony of nature. She loses herself in the sounds of birds, wind, and trees.

“What a shame I had to wait so long to hear the music of life,” muttered Anya. She closed her eyes, and let herself float away.
